I love your song “The Holy Ghost” and am sharing a cd of some of my favorite music with my family and friends which includes a song one of my friends wrote called “Today, I am baptized” that I sang for my niece’s baptism. Jeanne loved to share her music with everyone, so I feel fairly confident that she would be happy to have you use the lyrics from “The Holy Ghost.” However, since it is currently in print through The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, you’ll have to check with them. Hi there – I’m doing some research for the Church. Do you know the original composition dates of Jeanne’s primary songs (prior to their appearing in the song books)? Also, do you have any sketches or early versions – particularly of “The Holy Ghost,” “Family History, I Am Doing It,” and “When Jesus Christ Was Baptized”? Thanks.
Hi Brent, Thank you for your interest in Jeanne’s music. Unfortunately, Jeanne did not give me anything having to do with those particular songs since the Church owns them. I joined the Church with my husband in 1979 and was called to Prinary soon afterwards. Our first child was born in 1980 with 4 more to come. The Holy Ghost was sung often both at church and at home – but the lyrics as I remember them were different. Am I losing my mind?
The first verse as I remember it was….
When Jesus was on earth He promised He would send
The Holy Ghost to guide us all, our true eternal friend.
The Holy Ghost is called the Holy Spirit too. And Jesus called Him Comforter, He helps borh me and you.

Hi Jeanne,
Unfortunately, I cannot confirm the original lyrics to this song. Jeanne Lawler could have told you the whole story about the song, were she still with us. However, since she has passed away and I do not currently have contact with any of her family, I can’t get you that information. The best advice I could give would be to look at past children’s songbooks and see if there are different lyrics there.
